International activities

The National Lithuanian Union of Students represents the country’s students and defends their rights at the international level. The organization is a member of the European Students’ Union and the Nordiskt Ordförande Møte (Nordic Presidential Meeting (NOM)), as well as a founding member of the Baltic Organizational Meeting (BOM). Also, representatives of the Student Union communicate with student organizations from Russia, Kaliningrad, Georgia, Armenia, Ukraine, Belarus and other countries. Together, they participate in international projects, exchange relevant information, and share experience.

  • The Baltic Organisational Meeting (BOM) is a regional agreement for cooperation between national student organisations in the Baltic States. The agreement was signed in Vilnius in 1999 on behalf of the Lithuanian Student Union by the then President Svajūnas Jakutis together with the President of the Latvian Student Union Andis Malējs. The Estonian Federation of Student Unions joined the BOM in 2003.
  • Nordic Presidential Meeting (NOM) is an umbrella organization that unites student unions from the Nordic and Baltic countries. The first NOM meeting took place in 1946 in Aarhus, Denmark. The Lithuanian Student Union has been a member of NOM since 2006.
  • European Students‘ Union  (ESU) is an umbrella organization that unites 47 national student organizations from 38 countries. ESU was founded in 1982 and was then called the Western European Student Information Office. The organization was founded by seven national student unions from Norway, Sweden, Iceland, France, Denmark, Great Britain and Austria. The organization was renamed ESU in 2007. The Lithuanian Students’ Union has been a member of ESU since 1998. In 2012, Karina Ufert, an Alumni of the Lithuanian Students’ Union, was elected as the President of ESU.
