On August 9, the elections of the President of the Republic of Belarus took place in Belarus. This presidential campaign, like others, was accompanied by a considerable number of violations, disregard for all rights that are enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus and mass detentions.
When people realised that the elections had been falsified again, they went to their polling stations. They demanded that the election commission post truthful information, many did so, but the people’s choice was again ignored.
On the same evening, people began to go out to peaceful pickets all over Belarus to show that they did not agree with another falsification. In response, Lukashenko unleashed a war with the people, giving a criminal order, thus, for several days in a row, unarmed people peacefully go out to defend their freedom. In response, they are thrown with flash-noise grenades and sent to prisons, where they are tortured.
The events of the last days cannot be described in one letter, because Belarusians are being deprived of fundamental human rights today. They are detained for nothing, various means are used against them, such as flash and noise grenades and water cannons, in prisons and places of temporary detention, there are now real concentration camps, where people are tortured and beaten. I draw your attention to the fact that the Belarusians did not unleash this war, they go out to peaceful protests, start a strike at enterprises and factories, using their constitutional right.
Alexander Grigorievich Lukashenko is the one who started all this. To this day, he ignores the situation in the country, saying that forces from abroad control people, he denies the fact that people do not agree with his dictatorship and regime. Moreover, people do not agree that Lukashenko is a legitimate president. He uses his administrative resource and the usurped state media to create the appearance of stability that does not exist.
As a person who watched violations at polling stations, I say that everyone tried to hide the truth that the real and legitimate president is Svetlana Tikhanovskaya. Now the Internet is disconnected in Belarus, and it is almost impossible to contact family and friends. But the Belarusian diaspora abroad is trying to spread information about what is happening in Belarus.
As the President of the Students’ Union of European Humanities University, a university that was repressed and forced to move to Lithuania, I express my support to all Belarusians, including our students. Most of them are now there and go out every day to peaceful protests.
I speak out against all kinds of human rights violations in our country and call on everyone to spread information about what is happening in Belarus.
Also, I declare that Svetlana Tikhanovskaya is a legitimate and real president of the Republic of Belarus.
President of EHU Students’ Union.
